Terms of Service

1. Introduction

JP-DIT-E is a desktop software application developed to assist users in extracting, translating, and learning Japanese through the use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. While the application is particularly well-suited for reading manga, it is also compatible with any form of visual content displayed on the user’s screen.
The software operates by allowing users to manually define a selection area around the text they wish to extract. It then processes this input using a custom-built, integrated Japanese-to-English dictionary specifically tailored to support language learning.
By accessing or using JP-DIT-E, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set forth in this Terms of Service agreement.

2. Licensing & Access

JP-DIT-E is free to use for non-commercial purposes, subject to the license model. Users can download and install the application on their personal computers. The software is available for Windows operating systems, with plans to expand to macOS and Linux in the future.

3. Non-local features

Some features of JP-DIT-E utilize server compute resources to enhance the user experience. Currently these are included in the free version of the software, but may be subject to change in the future. These features include:

  • AI-powered explanations of Japanese words and phrases.

4. User Responsibilities & Prohibited Activities

Users must ensure that their use of JP-DIT-E complies with all applicable laws. Any attempts to hack, reverse-engineer, modify, or otherwise tamper with the software or its related services are strictly prohibited. Additionally, any attempts to disrupt service availability, such as through denial-of-service (DoS) attacks or similar activities, are strictly forbidden. Any unauthorized use of the software may result in the termination of the license and could lead to legal consequences.

5. Limitations & Disclaimers

JP-DIT-E is provided on an "as-is" basis without warranties of any kind. While the application aims to provide accurate OCR and AI-powered explanations, results may vary. The developer is not responsible for any inaccuracies or damages resulting from the use or inability to use the software.

6. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated or modified at any time. While we may not notify users individually, the latest version of the terms will always be available on the official website. Continued use of JP-DIT-E signifies acceptance of the most recent terms.
